AUGUST INTERNAL SQUASH LEAGUES

Hi Everyone

It's good that even though we are in the middle of summer (not that the weather knows that!) many of you are keeping the leagues going...and keeping them competitive too. Many thanks!

We have had a number of injuries to players recently which have occurred once the monthly league has started and after the player (with the injury) has played some games. As they are not able to fulfil their fixtures, players they have yet to play are not able to score any points or achieve bonus points for playing all their games. This appears unfair and although we realise the lack of fairness could work both ways - with players scoring points having to lose them - we have decided to bring in a new rule (this has been passed by the club committee) that states that players who have to withdraw mid-league will have their results erased. This rule was applied in three cases last month.

Included as an amendment to the squash league rules, the new rule reads:

If a player has to leave a league because of injury or personal circumstances, and they have played at least one game during a given month but have not fulfilled their fixtures, their results will be erased in order to be fair to the other players in the league.

I hope this new rule will help to clarify situations (regarding the league) when a player is injured and you support it. Please note that I am the only person who can erase the scores so if you sustain an injury or because of personal circumstances you are not able to fulfil the rest of your fixtures during any given month, please let me know.

Another thing I'd just like to clarify is promotions and relegations. At the end of every month the top and bottom players of each league will move. The rules state that sometimes the 2nd from top or bottom may also move. This usually happens when I am trying to ensure that each league has four or five players. Hope this explanation helps.

I do hope our injured players recover well and we're soon back to six/seven leagues again.

All the best for August.

Stephen
